S1 E1 • Poor Cinderella

In this retelling of the Cinderella story, Betty is the title character, a poor young woman forced to be the virtual slave of her two ugly stepsisters. Betty/Cinderella is visited by her fairy godmother, who grants her wish to attend the prince's ball, giving her beautiful clothes, a carriage, and the traditional glass slippers. When midnight strikes, she rushes out of the ball, leaving behind her shoe. The prince searches the land for the woman whose foot fits the slipper, and finds his "poor Cinderella." The two are married, and the ugly stepsisters are left to argue with each other until the credits smack their heads together.

S1 E2 • Little Dutch Mill

The scene painted on a Dutch plate sitting in a china cabinet comes to life. It's a simple tale of a Dutch Hans(el) and Gretel and their pet duck, who play around a mill inhabited by the town miser. The miser catches the children spying on him as he counts his gold and ties them up, threatening to burn their tongues out. The duck alerts the townspeople, and they clean up the old mill and the miser. In the process, the miser realizes that all his gold did not bring him happiness.

S1 E3 • An Elephant Never Forgets

Animal children ship off to school in their daily routine, then go through their lessons in a musical review led by their duck teacher. Everyone remembers the routine but the elephant. Mayhem envelops the schoolroom every time that the myopic teacher turns his back.

S1 E4 • The Song of the Birds

A flock of robins is teaching their young ones to fly. Meanwhile, a boy with an air rifle is shooting at everything in the house. He goes out into the garden and shoots at a nest, then at one of the little birds. The bird falls to the ground, and it appears that the boy has killed it. The robins stage a bird funeral. The boy's conscience gets to him, and he falls to his kneels, crying and praying for the bird. The sky also weeps with large tears of rain, which cause the little bird to awaken. The rainbow appears, and the boy breaks his air rifle and feeds the birds, never to menace them again.

Various animal newlyweds take a rocket ship to the moon, where they dance the night away to "Dancing on the Moon (With You In My Arms)."

The courtship of two swans is interrupted by a third swan, who demonstrates his prowess at catching fish. The pen falls for him and leaves her mate, but when the interloper begins treating her cruelly and chases her around the pond, her old flame intercedes and chases the evil swan away.

S1 E8 • Musical Memories

An elderly couple reminisce before a fire. The old man gets out their photo album. Through an old stereo viewer, they revisit their shared past, beginning as toddlers in the 1870s and leading up to their wedding and kids. A medley of popular late 19th-century and early 20th-century songs accompanies the couple's memories of their youth and courtship. The couple, in flat painted backgrounds, look through the stereoscope at animation with 3-D backgrounds. In the end, the couple are revealed to be 3-D figures themselves, living in a quaint nostalgia nook in a vast 3-D mansion with beautiful Art Deco styling.

S1 E9 • Somewhere in Dreamland

A young brother and sister carry a wagon with pieces of wood, gathering them for their stove. They pass by three merchants' shops: a tinker's, a butcher's, and a baker's. The children see confectioneries at the window, trying to lick it to taste them. The chef comes out with cupcakes, but they already left. The children reach home, and they are welcomed by their mother, with a kiss. Then, they eat dinner: hard bread and flat water. The children eat quickly, with the boy saying "I'm still hungry, Ma." She then cries, because they are very poor, due to the Great Depression. The boy said he was joking, and their mother kisses them good night. They get in their pajamas, and they each sing a part of the song, as they fall asleep. She turns off the candle light, and goes to bed so sadly. In their sleep, they enter a land with a welcome sign, an arch of pillows with the word "Dreamland". They walk happily through the wondrous land, which includes an ice cream cone field, an animal cracker carousel, a field of popcorn-making corn stalks, wonderful toys, and two beds. They laugh happily, and fall asleep, only to wake up the next morning. To their surprise, a large feast is on the kitchen table, provided by the Merchants. They ask, "All for us?" The merchants say, "All for you." They shout in joy, eating ice cream sundaes, and the boy sticks a fork on his bottom, to check if they weren't dreaming again. The children laugh, and a chorus sings "Somewhere in Dreamland, tonight."

S1 E15 • Christmas Comes But Once a Year

The short begins in an orphanage, where the orphans are all asleep, awaiting Christmas morning. Just then, the puppy from the clock slides down a ramp and licks on one of the orphans. The first orphan shouts, "Merry Christmas, everybody!" And all the orphans jump out of bed and head to the hall, singing the title song. They grab the toys from their stockings, and get ready to play with them. However, they are sad to discover that the toys are completely broken and fall apart when they are played with. The orphans can't help but cry. Meanwhile, Professor Grampy is out riding through the snow in his motor-driven sleigh, singing the title song himself. He hears the orphans crying from inside the orphanage, and he parks the sleigh, runs to the door, peeps through the window, and tries to think of a way to give the orphans a better Christmas. He puts on his thinking cap, and shortly, the light bulb on the cap blinks. Apparently, he has an idea. He climbs through the window and starts making new toys out of household appliances. Finally, he dresses up as Santa Claus (with a stove pipes as the boots, a red cloth as the jacket, a pillow for the weight, and potholders as the hat), grabs a dinner bell, and surprises the orphans by ringing the bell and shouting, "Merry Christmas, everybody!" The orphans all rush out to greet him and to play with their new toys. Grampy completes the scene by making a Christmas tree out of umbrellas. At the end, they sing the title song one last time, and a giant stamp appears, showing Santa Claus and a "Holiday Greetings" message.

The cartoon features a lion dressed up as a musical conductor, attempting to keep his orchestra of animal musicians in order as they half-play, half-fight their way through the piece. Memorable moments include a Dachshund playing the xylophone using his back legs while the rest of him sleeps, a group of monkeys using a flute as a pea-shooter to fire at their fellow musicians, and a horse trombonist who attempts to swat a fly using his instrument but who only succeeds in hitting the dog trumpeter in front of him.

S1 E25 • All's Fair at the Fair

A couple of sticks visit the fair grounds where the World's Fair is being held, and find themselves participating in a series of adventures with the ultra-modern mechanism operated by robots. Finally, they reach the dance pavilion, and the wife and husband each are taken in hand by robots and whirled around the floor. Other mechanical gags give them a marvelous meal, beauty and barber treatments, and clinical attention to restore their youth.
