With the recent announcements covering Yakuza's western releases, we decided to talk about a Yakuza title that we're highly unlikely to ever see in the west. Ryū ga Gotoku Ishin follows Sakamoto Ryoma during the Bakumatsu period of Japan, and has a fair share of historical Japanese themes. The game originally released for the PlayStation 3 (PS3), but was also ported to the PlayStation 4 (PS4) as a launch title in the Japanese region. Through our analysis, we hope to explains some of the title's gameplay and give some insight as to why it stayed in Japan. Fans will notice how this game is distinct form the recently released Yakuza 0.

This time on Region Locked, we take a look at a game Nintendo has never brought to the west, Mother 3. Mother 3 is the Game Boy Advance sequel to the cult classic Super Nintendo RPG, Earthbound. Mother 3 began its development on the SNES before transitioning to the Nintendo 64. Development on the N64 64DD add-on was ultimately transitioned to the GBA. The game was released in 2006 in Japan, but was never officially localized in English. However, the game received an unofficial fan translation by the starmen.net community a few years later. The game's protagonist, Lucas, would go on to be featured in Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS, and the upcoming Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
