S2 E1 • The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Meet Dracula (1)

Frank and Joe are searching for their father in Europe, who went missing investigating a series of art robberies at a rock festival in Europe called Dracula's Castle in Transylvania where he ends up missing and the boys go in a merry romp to search for him as some people suspect he is dead. Nancy Drew ends up in the same hotel room as the boys do and a clash happens between the two of them but end up joining forces for the first time to solve the mystery. Their investigation leads them to the Dracula's Castle, where some strange going's on ensue.They meet up with a touring group of musicians led by Tim (played by songwriter Bernie Taupin in his acting debut) and Joe offers to sing in their group by paying them for him to sing at the festival in Dracula's Castle to search for their missing father. The boys are traveling through Egypt on their way to Kenya. When Frank succeeds in recapturing a purse snatched in an Egyptian bazaar, he is mystified when the owner, a lovely American girl, refuses to take it back. Instead, she pushes the key to her hotel room into his hands and asks him to meet her there later. When he and Joe open the purse they find what appears to be a priceless artifact, which has almost certainly been stolen. That evening at the hotel, they don't find the purse's owner, they find the street urchin who'd stolen the purse (who escapes again), and then the police - who confiscate their passports. Frank & Joe team up with Nancy Drew again in Los Angeles to attend the 14th Annual Detectives' Convention at a TV & movie studio to uncover an identity of a murderer called the Hollywood Phantom (Who's dressed up as Phantom of the Opera) who has been abducting convention attendees and also leaving mutilated photos of Nancy, the Hardy's and other people involved with the convention with the heads of the photo's cut off and a deadly note on the back of the picture which the Phantom is basing on a story of a show where there's people missing one by one from a photographic picture and it's starting to happen to the people at the convention and the pics of their heads are starting to be placed on the photograph. Fenton and the boys are in Kenya, Africa investigating widespread poaching at a wildlife preserve at the Safari. The people there suspect that a fellow named Trevor Masters (Stuart Whitman) is a game killer and they first meet up with his daughter Sarah (Anne Lockhart) at an african dancing convention. Then they stay at Trevor and Sarah's home to find more proof of the going's on. Frank and Joe are traveling across country from Bayport to Nevada in that super cool 1970's GMC van, and they stop in a small town to visit a friend played by Bonnie Ebsen (Buddy Ebsen's daughter). She thinks her boyfriend has been abducted by a UFO! Tony Dow (Leave It To Beaver) plays an air traffic controller. There's lot of classic Hardy Boys adventure in this episode. Fenton Hardy (Edmund Gilbert) summons his sons to Mexico to bring him an important file. Upon arriving, they are to register at their hotel under false names and await a contact who will use a prearranged code. When two American girls, Jackie and Sue (Deborah Ryan and 60's, 70's & 80's cult item Kimberly Beck), inadvertantly use the special phrase, Frank and Joe think that they are the contacts. Later, while the foursome is relaxing on the beach, an evil henchman named Ramone (Jorge Cervera Jr.), employed by the mysterious Alexander Cartel (Craig Stevens), slashes Joe's glider.
