In the spring of 2005, prominent Vietnamese fortune teller Ha Smith and her daughter Anita Vo are found brutally stabbed to death inside their Orange County, CA home. In a puzzling twist, their killer has also poured white paint over their bodies. As detectives consider the possibility of a ritual killing, new purchases are being made on Ha Smith's credit cards. The money trail leads police to a North Carolina woman who also happens to be a client of Ha Smith.

The trio kidnaps the elderly woman, bind her with duct tape, and force her into the trunk of her own car. They then drive around the town of Palestine, TX, stopping to show her off to friends along the way. When Danielle Simpson's younger brother Lionel joins them, he convinces the others that Geraldine must be killed.

The young couple has a connection to the Sumner's. Tiffany Cole used to be their neighbor. Jackson and Cole, along with friends Alan Wade and Bruce Nixon, have committed an unspeakable crime.

On the night of August 9, 1991, two men break into the Buddhist temple on the outskirts of Phoenix, AZ and murder all 9 people inside. The motive appears to be robbery. Based on a tip, a special task force quickly arrests four Tucson, AZ men and charges them with the murders. But ballistics tests on a confiscated .22 rifle connect the murders to two teenagers - Jonathan Doody and Alessandro "Alex" Garcia. While being questioned, Garcia admits he and Doody are the real killers.
