Depuis l'arrivée des consoles qui proposent des jeux en 3D, les jeux 2D ont essayé de tenir bon et persistaient à sortir de bonnes choses, mais son déclin était inévitable, même sur les consoles portables (GBA, NeoGeo pocket) la 2D a fait de plus en plus de place à la 3 dimensions.
