Cet enregistrement est considéré comme le premier véritable album de blues à proprement parler. En effet, jusque là les albums étaient plus des compilations de plusieurs sessions regroupées en un disque. Ici, les artistes se sont réunis sous la direction du producteur Bob Koester qui aimait tellement la musique de Junior Wells qu'il lui a laissé carte blanche pour deux jours de sessions afin de choisir ses titres, sidemen et durée de l'album. On retrouve un tout jeune Buddy Guy (crédité comme "Friendly Chap", en référence à son nom de scène, à cause de son contrat avec le label Chess). Il en résulte l'un des meilleurs albums de blues tout confondus, produit et joué à la perfection.

C'est à partir du milieu des années 60 que se développe vraiment le blues britannique, de jeunes musiciens blancs reprenant la formule à leur compte. Parmi toute cette nouvelle communauté naissante, The Animals sera souvent projeté sur le devant de la scène grâce à la performance scénique de son chanteur et des singles consistants en des reprises de divers classiques de blues américains. Il était donc logique qu'ils renvoient l'ascenseur à ceux qui les avaient inspirés en leur faisant profiter de leur célébrité. Toutefois ce concert-ci reste un peu décevant sur plusieurs points. En effet, Sonny Boy Williamson, tout aussi doué qu'il soit ne laisse pas beaucoup de place aux Animals et ceux-ci sont traités comme un simple groupe d'accompagnement ; Eric Burdon ne chantant que sur 2 titres avec le "king of the harmonica" (Night Time Is The Right Time et Nobody But You, de loin les meilleurs titres du live). Reste que Sonny Boy arrive à insuffler une énergie décontractée et une technique d'harmoniciste dont lui seul a le secret.

Premier album du groupe de John Mayall, on trouve un invité de marque en la personne de Eric Clapton. Précédemment devenu célèbre sur la scène britannique au sein des Yardbirds (on écrivait déjà "Clapton is God" dans les rues londonniennes), celui-ci apporte une vraie plus-value à un album qui allait devenir le fer de lance du boom blues rock d'Angleterre. Mais il ne faut pas que sa renommée éclipse le génial travail de Mayall, formidable chanteur et arrangeur, qui montrait déjà ici son désir de se rapprocher du jazz. À noter aussi la présence de John McVie, futur cofondateur de Fleetwood Mac mais aussi Hughie Flint qui jouera dans le groupe Savoy Brown fin 1967.

Alors que Eric Clapton connaissait un succès déjà flamboyant, il ne reste pas longtemps avec John Mayall, juste le temps d'un album, après quoi il fondera Cream. Son lead guitariste parti, Mayall en chercha donc un autre et le trouvera en la personne de Peter Green, un jeune de 20 ans prêt à relever la lourde tâche de remplacer Clapton. Si le public de l'époque était réticent à cette succession, Green introduit un jeu de blues très sensible et connaisseur sans pour autant en être un puriste. L'alchimie fonctionna très bien dans le groupe mais Green désapprouva la direction artistique que Mayall voulait donner aux Bluesbreakers. Il quitta donc le groupe pour en fonder un autre, suivit du bassiste et batteur : Fleetwood Mac (du nom de ces derniers John 'Mac'Vie et Mick 'Fleetwood'). Dans l'édition deluxe du CD, il est aussi inclus des morceaux live avec Paul Butterfield mais aussi des titres avec notamment Collin Allen, batteur du groupe Stone the Crows et de Bob Dylan dans les années 80.

Ceci n'est pas à proprement parler une réunion de plusieurs bluesmens car seul Hooker est l'artiste principal de ce Burnin'. Néanmoins on peut noter la participation sur l'enregistrement des musiciens de sessions de la Motown, les Funk Brothers. Ici dans l'une de leur formation les plus célèbres (le très innovant James Jamerson en tête) accompagnent le king du boogie rock sur entre autres le classique "Boom Boom".

Ces trois concert donnés au Boston Tea Party en 1970 par la première formation de Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green à sa tête, n'ont qu'un titre ("Encore Jam" à la fin du deuxième live) qui comporte deux autres invités. Et pas n'importe lesquels puisqu'il s'agit de Clapton, quelques mois avant qu'il forme Derek and the Dominos, et de Joe Walsh qui jouait avec le groupe James Gang, 5 ans avant de rejoindre les Eagles.
