Résumé : Coventry Patmore cared little for the crowd. And it is probably because of his complete withdrawal from public life during the last years of his life, when his poetical work was finished, that so little is known or remerbered of his personality. In many ways, Patmore was one of the strangest and most fascinating of all the Victorian writers, but, like Tennyson, he suffered from the age in which he lived, and preferred to hide his real self from the world.
