Entre récits brefs et nouvelles longues (celles que les Etats-uniens appellent des novelas), voici un recueil certes très varié mais contenant de très bons textes. Le fantastique y est souvent en mode mineur, King préférant se focaliser sur la situation de ses personnages; la question de la croyance (la foi ?) y est primordiale, établissant une frontière quasiment infranchissable entre ceux qui croient et ceux qui refusent de croire. Une des nouvelles reprend un des personnages de Cujo.
