This was so engaging and full of qualities ! It's a shame we don't hear about it more, I mean, it has :
- amazing character development served by really good actors, so good that we actually forget that they are people acting and not their characters
- pretty good representation (especially for a 2010 show), with : well-handled gay-straight male friendships, a bi character who is a lead and one of the best characters ever (and who's accepted right away by everyone with no drama except the ones caused by his own anxiety), atypical family models, eating disorders tackled in a natural and not too classic way, and so on
- sexist/racist/homophobic words or attitudes are ALWAYS called out + abusive behaviours are exposed
- couple is mostly not a happy ending and even if it naturally has a huge place in the show, it's not the goal in the end, and it's so much more about friendship and finding your own path
- one of the most touching episodes I've have ever seen in a series, with grieving moments so sincere and heart-breaking that I'm still not over it a season later (and I'll probably never be and gonna start crying everytime I'll hear the character's name)
- an ending which is actually not a cringy cute happy ending, even if yes it's a happy ending
- a sequel shaped as a clever movie dealing with cancer, post-injury trauma, and basically growing up
Why wouldn't you want to watch this, seriously ? ♥
