S1 E1 • Fear and Love
Sakurai Taro (Odagiri Joe) lives with his grandmother and runs the cheap sweets shop "Sakuraya" in an older part of Tokyo. Having lost his parents early, he's devoted to the grandmother who raised him and does his best to keep Sakuraya going. But with sales so low, he's forced to take part-time jobs in construction to keep their heads above water. Still, he has plenty of time to spend lounging around with his friends. That is until an old classmate of Taro's, Kimura Reiko (Ono Machiko) shows up after a long time. Seems she's gotten a divorce and is now a single mother with a 5 year-old son in tow. Reiko soon finds herself falling for Taro, who is none to sure he's ready for that.

S1 E2 • Meaning
Taro's friend Saegusa is hit by a car belonging to their old classmate Musashi, who is now President of an IT company. When Taro finds out Musashi will be dropping by Sakuraya, he and Saegusa worry whether Musashi will look down on their lifestyle. But Musashi turns out to be more complicated than that. In the meantime, Taro's relationship with Reiko seems to be warming up a bit.

S1 E3 • Regret
Taro happens to remember an old classmate of his named Wakabayashi Kiyomi who was teased back in grade school. He asks both his friend Saegusa and Reiko about her, but they don't remember much about her either. Then Reiko, who asks some of her other friends about her, finds out that Kiyomi led a pretty harsh life and that Taro, Saegusa and Reiko all played a part in that back in grade school. Meanwhile the gang begins to question Taro and Reiko's relationship.

S1 E4 • Individual Pain, Facing Reality
Taro and his friend Saegusa decide to do some research into the problems of the world and what they can do about them. They soon realize however little they can do for those realities. Especially when they have enough trouble facing their own realities. When their friend Gou offers some unwanted advice to them, he ends up paying a price for it at Taro's hand, leading Taro to soon regret it. Meanwhile, Reiko comes down ill while at work and Taro steps in to take care of Haruma in the meantime.

S1 E5 • Love
Taro and Reiko’s relationship seems to be moving forward steadily, but he’s having a tough time with her cooking. But he’ll have something even tougher to deal with in the form of Marie, a woman who works with Reiko and who may have had some past with Taro. When Reiko tries to question Taro about Marie and Taro evades, Reiko decides her cooking could use some work after all.

Taro's upset that his pal Saegusa is finally moving forward with his dream to become a screenwriter. While everyone else around him is telling him to cheer Saegusa on, Taro just can't bring himself to do so. When it turns out Saegusa's screenplay is based on an event in his and Taro's past, that may have implications for the present

S1 E7 • The Dream Continues
Taro and Saegusa, still under the influence of the angel's bite, start practicing together with dreams of making it big time. Meanwhile however, their friends Shima and Gou are facing the more practical reality of getting themselves jobs. Reiko, too, has to face reality when her Mother pressures her to find a husband to help out in raising Haruma. But when the dreamers and the realists collide, there might be some collateral damage.

S1 E8 • Resolve
Gou's death has left a hole in the remaining members, but Taro and the others take it as a sign they need to grow up and move on with their lives. But while Taro struggles over what to do about his own life, he receives another blow, this time from his Grandma. But his sadness from that will help stiffen his resolve over what to do about both "Sakuraya" and Reiko.

S1 E9 • Fight
Taro has received a trial summons. Seems the plaintiff thinks it was Taro's cat that scratched up the hood of his car and he wants compensation for it. But since it wasn't Taro's cat in the photos and since the plaintiff is so obnoxious, Taro decides he can tackle this case alone. Meanwhile, Taro's Grandma has her mind set on a change of life for herself.

S1 E10 • Forgetfulness
Taro has lost the trial and his Grandma has put “Sakuraya” up for sale. Taro’s determined to at least keep his new family together and makes plans to earn the money to pay for both a restaurant and a new home. So he’s shocked when his Grandma suddenly announces she’s moving away. But as the years pass and Taro works hard and moves on with his life, will he forget what it was about “Sakuraya” that made it so special for all of them.
