S4 E9 • Special Report: Healing in Ferguson
This special episode follows Iyanla on an emotional trip to Ferguson, Missouri, as she embeds herself in the local community and works to empower citizens by helping them formulate a plan for peace and healing in the wake of the shooting death of Michael Brown. Iyanla visits the memorial site first, spending hours reaching out to individuals affected by the tragic event and offering them ways to move past their anger. Then, she brings Pastor Charles Ewing, Michael Brown's uncle, face-to-face with Thomas Jackson, the Ferguson police chief. Together, they discuss the need for peace so that the system has time to work. Not stopping there, Iyanla hosts a community discussion, sits down with a group of young men—some of whom profess to be gang members—and makes her way past National Guard checkpoints to join a peaceful protest with community leaders and Welcome to Sweetie Pie's star Tim Norman. Later, as a first healing step, Iyanla encourages everyone to choose peace.

In one of her most challenging cases to date, Iyanla must help Jay come face-to-face with feelings of hurt and resentment that are the result of his parents' emotional abandonment of him. The void stemming from these unresolved issues has locked Jay in a seemingly endless cycle of women and children.
