On July 4, 2012, Evelyn married NFL player Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson. Just after the wedding, Iyanla Vanzant traveled to Miami to get to the heart of their very public relationship. When Iyanla arrived, she found only Evelyn, who opened up about her greatest fears, her marriage and the shame she felt when her stepdaughters saw her behavior on television. With Iyanla's tough love, Evelyn started down the path to self-discovery. Four weeks later, Evelyn alleged that Chad head-butted her. Chad was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and pleaded not guilty. Evelyn filed for divorce. When asked for a statement, Chad had no comment. After their separation, Iyanla flies to New York City to find out what happened that night and guide her to a positive fresh start.

S1 E4 • Fix My Family Secret
The Chavez family may look like many of yours, where a family secret or a lie has fanned the flames of a breakdown. Jose is a popular morning radio personality in Dallas. At age 23, he learned the man who raised him was not his father. Eventually, he met his biological father and established a relationship, even introducing him to his own newborn son. Throughout the process, he talked about it on the radio. This enraged Jose's mother, Patricia, and his sister. Soon, they weren't talking at all. After five months of not speaking to his family, Jose asked Iyanla for help. Now, Iyanla has less than 24 hours to support them. She works with Patricia to find out why, as a teen mom, she lied to Jose. As the family reunites, they must face the truth of their past to move forward. Since Iyanla's visit, the Chavez family have spoken on the phone and plan to see each other soon. Jose and his wife have also been sending pictures and videos of their son to Patricia.

S1 E5 • Fix My Mistake
Mistakes that negatively affect an entire family can be difficult to navigate. Iyanla travels to Battle Creek, Nebraska, to meet with a woman trying to put her family back together after an affair tore them apart. Amy was married for 16 years and had two teenage sons when she moved 1,000 miles away to be with a new man. Now, that relationship is over, and Amy says she wants to come back home. Over the past three years, Amy has tried to return to her old life six times and didn't stay. She hasn't seen her sons in five months when Iyanla joins her in Battle Creek to support her through her last chance to make peace with her family. With only 48 hours to start the healing of wounds that have been festering for years, Iyanla digs deep with every member of the family to find out if this is a home that can be rebuilt.

Chicago is a city of 1.3 million women. Now, Iyanla is traveling to the Windy City to find out why six of them can't get along. The Six Brown Chicks was a group of savvy bloggers, who set out to do good for other women. Together, Zondra, Shoya, Kayann, Gina, Yanni and Dawj took off. In just a few weeks, the Six Brown Chicks caught the attention of a local television station. Webisodes were produced, and a potential show was in the works. Six months later, the partnership crumbled due to jealousy, anger and backstabbing. Now, there is no television show, the blog is stalled, and their relationships are torn apart. In order to mend their destructive friendship and dispel the myth that women can't trust each other Iyanla puts all six women together for a retreat they'll never forget.

Iyanla Vanzant heads to Chicago to help heal the wounds of four children in turmoil over their drug-addicted, absentee father, who is in prison. Will, Carissa, Mia and Crystal, who are now grown, were raised by their grandmother. Their father spent much of their lives behind bars, and they say their mother dropped out of their lives completely. On the day of his possible release, Iyanla breaks down emotional walls and tries to mend the hearts of these four children in anticipation of his return.

Yasmin and her twin sisters, Yolande and Pam, haven't seen one another in four years. To support this family in healing, Iyanla travels to Detroit to bring them together in order to face their past, make peace in the present and give them a future with each other. When she arrives, Iyanla uncovers their difficult upbringing and a painful past of sexual abuse that never truly allowed the sisters to bond. Soon, facing the past becomes too difficult for Yasmin, and she leaves. However, twins Yolande and Pam have the opportunity at a new beginning while leaving their hearts open to Yasmin.

Iyanla heads to Los Angeles to support actress Maia Campbell, best known for her role as Tiffany in the '90s hit TV show In the House, starring LL Cool J and Debbie Allen. Through the years, Maia has struggled with addiction and was publicly humiliated when shocking videos of her hit the Internet. After the show was canceled, Maia struggled with a crystal meth addiction and let herself be used by men to feed her habit. Her fans were left in shock after videos of her surfaced on the Internet showing her looking disheveled and strung out on drugs. Iyanla helps Maia re-establish a trusting relationship with her family and gives her the tools she needs to become a better mother to her 11-year-old daughter. She also works with Maia to help her with her unresolved guilt for all the pain she caused her mother and grandmother which is holding her back and keeping her from moving forward with her life.

Iyanla heads to Minneapolis to help Nicole, a wife and mother, who says she feels worthless. After three years of marriage, Nicole says she feels that her husband, Mike, is detached and unsupportive. Nicole is struggling to hang on to her marriage and deal with unhappy children and says she's become so good at masking her life that it has become her life. Nicole doesn't know if staying in her second marriage is best for her and her children. Can Iyanla give them the tools to fix their blended family?

Iyanla travels to Birmingham, Alabama, to work with Kim and Annette, sisters whose relationship with their mother, Charlene, is at a breaking point. Years later, unresolved issues from the sisters' painful past threaten to destroy their relationship with their mother, who is broke, alone and dependent on their support. In an emotional process, Iyanla helps hold Charlene accountable for her parenting missteps and works to reopen the lines of communication between the three women—before it's too late.
