Synopsis : Mirai est un jeune homme qui a perdu toute foi en la vie depuis le jour où ses parents ont perdu la vie et qu'il fut invité à vivre chez son oncle et sa tante. Peu cordiaux, ces derniers ne font que maltraiter Mirai et l'exploite tel un esclave. La vie de Mirai n'est donc que misère et désolation depuis le décès de ses parents ; une situation plus que précaire qui poussera finalement notre héros à envisager le suicide comme seul et unique moyen d'échapper à cette vie de souffrance. Mais le jour où il décide de passer à l'acte, Mirai est sauvé in extremis par Nasse, un ange qui lui révélera d'effroyables vérités concernant sa famille d'accueil, et qui accessoirement, lui fera don de trois précieux pouvoirs : des ailes pour voyager librement, une flèche rouge pouvant rendre amoureux n'importe qui durant 33 jours, et enfin une flèche blanche pour endormir un individu durant toute l'éternité. Nasse prendra également la peine d'avertir Mirai qu'il n'est pas le seul individu sur cette terre à jouir de tels privilèges. En effet, douze autres personnes ont également reçu des pouvoirs d'anges, ceci dans l'optique d'élire l'humain qui remplacera dans 999 jours Dieu. Tour à tour intrigué, fasciné, puis terrifié par les propos de Nasse, Mirai conclut qu'il serait judicieux de décliner sa proposition, mais dans le même temps, Nasse l'informe qu'en cas de refus, ses pouvoirs lui seront enlevés et il mourra par suicide, comme cela aurait dû se produire initialement. Ce que notre héros ignore cependant, c'est que sa vie est désormais plus que jamais menacée par les autres élus avides de pouvoir qui projettent secrètement de se débarrasser des autres potentiels candidats à l'élection de Dieu...
