Meanwhile, a once-lonely Pichu is spending its days with a group of friendly Kangaskhan, but when the time comes for it to set off on its own, it suddenly evolves into Pikachu! Goh’s luck changes when he focuses on Bug-type Pokémon that live in Kanto, and he catches a Caterpie, Metapod, and Venomoth, followed by a Paras, Parasect, and Butterfree. Walking through a park, he encounters a Cubone being teased by a trio of Mankey. The Mankey steal Cubone’s bone, and the poor little Pokémon’s despair prompts Goh to help. Ash eventually arrives, and with some help from their Pokémon, our heroes successfully return the bone. The formerly lonely Cubone is so thankful, it insists on joining Goh’s team! Then, our heroes visit Slowpoke Island, where they meet lots of Slowpoke and a Slowking! Goh wants to catch Slowking, but the Shellder on its head comes off, and one by one, our heroes find it on top of their heads, resulting in some strange behavior! Although it’s similar to Goh’s Farfetch’d from Kanto, this regional form carries a huge leek that it uses in battle. Goh catches it, but when he sends it into battle, Sobble becomes overwhelmed and runs away. It gets captured by Team Rocket, who can’t resist crying along with it. Luckily, Goh thinks of a way to block the effects of Sobble’s tears, so he and Ash send Team Rocket blasting off again! Meanwhile, Pidove is content to stay perched on Yamper’s back—which annoys Yamper even more! But when a menacing Fearow attacks, Chloe draws upon her bond with Yamper to defeat it in battle. Mimey tries to get Pikachu to return to Ash, but Pikachu refuses, so the two Pokémon begin their journey. Although it’s perilous at times, they finally arrive—and who should suddenly appear but Ash and Goh! This time, Goh finds the shrine—and a note from Horace. In the note, Horace apologizes and explains that he couldn’t meet up again because he got sick. Goh has caught lots of Pokémon so far! But what to catch next? Admiring the camaraderie between Ash and Pikachu, he decides to catch a Pikachu of his own. Coincidentally, Professor Cerise wants our heroes to research a Pikachu outbreak, so they’re off! When they arrive, Goh catches a female Pikachu, whose friends are digging Thunder Stones out of the nearby rocks. But Team Rocket arrives, and they manage to round up not just the wild Pikachu, but Ash’s Pikachu, too! Ash and Goh investigate—inside, they discover a sprawling desert, and Goh catches a Trapinch and a Vibrava. They also find the source of the singing noise: a powerful Flygon! As Ash gets caught up in his own thoughts, Goh confidently defeats Flygon…and catches it, too! Things look bad when Kiawe uses a Z-Move, but he has Marowak whisk Goh and Raboot out of danger just in time! With Goh demonstrating his determination, he and Kiawe become friends, and our heroes enjoy the rest of their visit. Exploring the fossil dig, our heroes find all sorts of ancient artifacts—even a piece of Old Amber! But Team Rocket is up to its old tricks. When they secretly try to operate a Fossil Pokémon Restorer Machine, it explodes! Meanwhile, Goh has his eye on a feisty Aerodactyl. Ash and Goh are off to the Johto region, where Ash is hoping for a rematch against Bea. They find Bea training with Gym Leader Chuck at the Cianwood City Gym. Bea accepts Ash’s challenge, and their two-on-two battle begins! First up are Pikachu and Bea’s Hitmontop; Pikachu wins, but then Bea’s Grapploct overwhelms it with Octolock. Next, Ash sends in Riolu, but things are different from the last battle—this time, Riolu doesn’t struggle, and instead focuses its power so it can use Force Palm and break free! A blackout adds to that evidence, and when Ash and Goh visit the Power Plant, Goh is proven correct! After briefly (and unsuccessfully) joining forces with Team Rocket, our heroes battle the Legendary Pokémon! Of course, Goh tries to catch it, but it breaks free—and before flying away, it shares some of its electricity with the Electric-type Pokémon gathered nearby. They agree that Pikachu loves them, but Meowth’s not about to reveal the truth… Then, Ash and Goh find a Marshtomp buried in hard, dry ground! Realizing that it had been playing in the mud when the ground dried out, our heroes decide to help as its friends look on. Rejoining forces, our heroes realize the sword and shield from Galar’s hero legend are actually Zacian and Zamazenta—who appear just in time to help defeat Eternatus again! After learning that a signal thought to come from Mew was detected on a distant island, Ash and Goh set off to investigate. There they find a forest filled with wild Pokémon, including a group of Pokémon who are inexplicably afraid. They follow the Pokémon—and to their surprise, Mewtwo appears! They share their respective goals with Mewtwo, and it agrees to a battle, but its sheer power is overwhelming. After being defeated, Ash and Goh realize that Mewtwo has been protecting Pokémon who were mistreated by humans. Team Rocket and Morpeko, who’s hangrier than ever! One by one, contestants are eliminated until two remain: Skwovet and Morpeko. But after pushing Morpeko too far, Team Rocket blasts off again—which means Skwovet has to eat just one more plate of food to win! While Ash and Goh eat delectable treats (thanks to Greedent’s eating contest victory), Team Rocket plans to steal Pikachu by switching it with a lookalike called “Practically Pikachu.” When they appear to succeed and make their getaway via bicycle, Lucario and Cinderace chase after them! In response, Meowth shoots a bouncy glue at the two Pokémon, and they end up stuck together. Although this presents real challenges, Lucario and Cinderace figure out a way to work together and send Team Rocket flying.
