The Perks of being a Wallflower is one of the first movies I remember watching after going through a hard time. I was in high school at the time. Safe to say I found refuge in it (and the book—which I won’t be comparing since it was almost literally perfectly depicted in the movie).
This movie is easy to watch, soft yet poetic and powerful. It is not just about a boy who’s introverted (a wallflower), it’s about a boy who’s coping with PTSD, depression, anxiety. It’s about someone blaming himself for things he went through. It’s about how he fell for someone who could literally understand some of his biggest traumas.
There ain’t enough movies/series that show males surviving SA. But this one was so peculiar towards it, as it gradually showed what had happened to Charlie.
The friendships, the romance(s), the emotions, and the tracklist—this movie has it all.
