FATS est un groupe australien basé entre Sydney et Brisbane, près de Byron Bay.
FATS trouve ses influences dans le jazz, le free jazz et le funk.
Le groupe est composé de 4 membres (Thierry Fossemalle-Bass, David Ades-Sax, Scott Tinkler-Trumpet, Greg Sheehan-Drums), chacunes des premières lettres des noms de famille formant le nom du groupe.
FATS a la particularité de ne pas avoir d'instrument polyphonique (guitare, piano...) ce qui laisse une grande liberté à la section rythmique mais également aux solistes. Un album génial à ne pas manquer !

Thierry Fosmale Fossemalle's churning bass lines funk it out with a rhythm and splendour of sheer and unadulterated, power-packed joy. Having worked extensively throughout Australia, Europe and Asia, he has performed and recorded with such notables as Peril, Mark Simmonds, Tony Buck and The Whitlams and is the founding member of Trans World Noise. He's worked with the likes of Vince Jones, the Freeboppers, Phil Treloar, Wynton Marsalis; sat in with Sonny Stitt and Freddie Hubbard; collaborated with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and put out a solo CD - the quirky and beautiful Bird on a Head. This guy lives and breathes music (...and surfing!). , his improvisation and composition skills are right up there on a crest with the best. His musial voice is "as distinctive as the masters, as large and luminous as life itself..." (John Clarke, SMH). He plays with a passion that is scary, pushing his instrument to idiosyncratic extremes that melt you away. Scott Tinkler When Tinkler isn't out surfing with other FATS members, he's winning ARIA awards, lecturing at The Victorian College of the Arts, giving master classes at conservatoriums throughout Australia and Europe....or extending his reputation across the globe as one of the most gifted trumpet players of our time. Or...he'll be playing in FATS! Tinkler is an outstanding force in contemporary music. He has recorded and toured nationally and internationally with the Australian Art Orchestra, Dale Barlow Quartet, Paul Grabowsky, Sheila Jordan, Horace Tapscott, Billy Harper and Steve Lacy. His ferociously beautiful playing resonates with pure craft and spirit. His wittily titled Sofa King CD has received glowing national and international reviews. "Tinkler has the BEST tone, technique, articulation and inventiveness I've EVER heard". And that's big praise coming from critic John Clare(SMH). Hear him play with FATS...and you'll agree. Greg Sheehan Sheehan is one of the most in-demand percussionist/drummers working in Australia at present. Just back from playing in Ireland with Hothouse Flowers, he's worked with this country's best - Sandy Evans Trio, David Bridie, The Church, Jacki Orczacski, Tony Buck, the Freeboppers and composer Nigel Westlake. He is the force behind the outstanding Utungan Percussion and is renowned for his wonderfully creative and inventive teaching skills and workshops. In FATS, "Sheehan's funky back-beats dominate the feel without pushing them into predictability....predictability, after all, is not a word which happily cohabits with the spirited, resourceful Sheehan (John Shand, SMH).
