Avant-première en présence de la réalisatrice. (insatisfaite de la discussion qui suivit.)
A beautiful looking (despite its budget) but hollow case for the love of a filmmaker for an author and his novel or rather what they represent, featuring welcome moments of cinema.
(Most standouts are harbor and boat scenes.)
Clearly coming from a quasi-monologue of a book (more precisely the husband), it makes the right choice to distanciate itself slightly from the man as well while still hugging his point of view.
The photography and the actors* make the three hours almost worth it.
Score: 5?/10
Enjoyment: 3/5
Not every director can do justice to whatever book he loved like Truffaut did. But it's always nice to hear them talk about it.
*How to handle Léa Seydoux #3 (Léa for dummies)
Hire her as a mysterious character, a cipher.
It was not easy for Léa to make her character's mind appear blank and not let anything get out, in order to keep the woman a mystery. - I.Enyeldi
