VF vue sur ARTE (1997), VOSTF vue restaurée (2014) sur ARTE et V.all. vue restaurée à l'occasion du cycle Wim Wenders sur la rbb.
An unreal tale (better not try to question the story) served by excellent acting (including the small appearance of Nastassja Kinski) and, more importantly, regularly boasting eye-catchingly colourful and perfectly framed pictures (be it landscapes, interiors, city nightscapes). The backgrounds often look artificial, reinforcing the fabled aspect.
The audience's luring, managed through information withholding, is decent enough to retain its attention during "2h of nothing happening" until everything is finally communicated in the theoretically less appealing way: stretched out monologues liberating all infos. Yes, the film offers in its last segment a showcase to its actors, by making the characters spilling out the whole untold story that supports the film's own story.
Supposedly emotional, that story has little for itself, the movie standing entirely on this wait along the visuals, direction and atmosphere.
Score: 7,5/10 (-0,5)
Enjoyment: 4/5
Not the best Wenders road-movie but his easier one.
