A fine example of the kind of unlikely but exciting essays US small press publishing can produce.

A fine example of the kind of unlikely but exciting essays US small press publishing can produce. Margaret Killjoy, herself an activist and zine publisher, interviewed 14 writers on "Writing and Anarchism". The result is somewhat fascinating : 14 masterpieces of discussion with Ursula K. Le Guin, Alan Moore, Lewis Shiner, Michael Moorcock, Rick Dakan, Octavio Buenaventura, Professor Calamity, Carissa van den Berk Clark, Jimmy T. Hand, Jim Munroe, Cristy C. Road, Strahawk, and Crimethinc.

A few quotes :
"Fiction is not a good medium for preaching or for planning. It is really good, though, for what we used to call consciousness-raising" (Ursula K. Le Guin)
"I'm saying that any book that doesn't start from the fact that this culture is killing the planet and work to resolve that is unforgivable. We'd be better off with blank pages." (Derrick Jensen)
"After all, when you mention the idea of anarchy to most people they will tell you what a bad idea it is because the biggest gang would just take over. Which is pretty much how I see contemporary society." (Alan Moore)
"So much of the far left political writing lacks a heart; it's so cerebral now." (Professor Calamity)
"In order to get meaningful political change, you have to change the culture. The more art can show positive images of defiance and rebellion against our culture of greed, the more chance we stand of making changes in the real world." (Lewis Shiner)
And many, many more... ;-)
