do you have any fucking idea how badly you have to fuck up to get me to hate a trans lesbian musical? according to this movie, emilia is a man until she receives gender-affirming surgery. everyone, including emilia herself, treats her as such. the song about potential surgeries is genuinely one of the most embarrassing movie scenes ive seen this year. outside of the songs, which are sometimes kinda fun, this movie is an absolute fucking slog with insanely bad dialogue. the target audience of this movie is vaguely left-leaning people who want to be queer allies but can’t disguise the fact that the whole trans thing makes them super uncomfortable. in other words it’s a shoo-in for the oscars
