Vu et revu (restauré) sur ARTE, lors de cycles consacrés à Bunuel.
A plotless and "simple", film, disorganised yet too mechanical, bend on making you watch relatively big actors parade as bourgois characters without much fantasy*. Essentially a 90 minutes one-joke (with little variations) farce full of absurdities and non-laughing humour that is surprisingly soft with Buñuel's usual targets.
Some nice interweaving of dreams and constant surprises might help the audience. But the (maybe too large) freedom of the director will repel most people.
Score: ?7?8?9?/10 (+2)
Enjoyment: 3/5 (I've always disliked farces.)
I doubt I understood everything, but I also doubt everything presented exists for a reason.
*Nevertheless, Ogier might be my favourite here, but Audran was excellent too.
