Vu et revu sur ARTE, soirée Fassbinder (40aire de sa mort).
Decent drama with usual Fassbinder varnish but a noticeable reduction in melodramatic antics, replaced by a more sentimental approach, and the overall tamer tone seem weird from that director. The colour hues are still there.
The juxtaposition of the idol's rise and decadence and Germany's situation is neat, but doesn't provide much meat to balance out her banal personal story taking the spotlight while Germany crumbles behind, the film being saved mostly thanks to its distance to the characters and their predicament.
But the superposition of the war and song scenes had become exhausting before the end of the film, the song itself repeated until it became a Nazi torture device.
Score: 6/10
Enjoyment: 3/5
I love Gottfried John 's enunciation in German. But all the other actors seemed to speak weirdly.
edit: it seems like the film was made in english before being dubbed in german.
