Vu sur Zone Horror, revu en salle (Plans Cultes, L'épouvantable soirée, spécial tronçonneuses).
I had forgotten that:
- this film is adorably 70s,
- it is one of the handful of horror movies that actually surprise me (twice, wich is a lot), even on a rewatch when I was expecting the scenes,
- Hooper "enlightens" his film beautifully with the daylight
- and made quite effective music/sounds
- as well as certain camera angles,
- feeding tension through the whole film,
- it doesn't shy away from ridiculousness (even at the cost of your hearing) when it is realistic (look at that final portion and the heroin's behaviour),
- the decaying grandfather was alive,
- and that the America it shows is as captivating as repelling (although that "political" aspect is really very thin and probably accidental).
Score: 8,5/10 (+1,5)
Enjoyment: 4/5
Simplicity serves this formally good and eflow budget film.
