Vu en salle.
This new Dupieux (not the one from Cannes) is again an absurdist film.
Though less absurd than Au poste! with Poelvoorde, the strange elements are immediately introduced as a starting point for an obvious attack on the vanity/ shallowness on full display here (be it obsession with physical "beauty" or with external signs of "male attributes", penis, Young women, cars and firearms) through a very easy metaphor and a logical story. Some simple humour (robot pénis, spécial hole) keep the audience entertained, making Incroyable mais vrai the most accessible Dupieux to this day despite its characters whose superficiality and obsessional repetitiveness will anger many viewers, especially given how extended the duration seems for the treatment (with a sudden fast-forward sequence for the last years of repetitions).
Limited but fun music tracks.
Score: 7/10
Enjoyment: 3/5
With all its hole and pénis talk, this tale is THE Dupieux for the whole family.
